PUBLIC HEARING MINUTES FOR LOCAL LAW #2 of 2023: “Granting Exemption on Town taxes based on income for residents over the age of 65”.

CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 6:15 pm by Supervisor Entwistle
LEGAL NOTICE:
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Town Board of the Town of Forestport will be holding a Public Hearing on March 15, 2023, at 6:00 PM at the Forestport Town Hall, 10275 State Rte.28, Forestport, NY, 13338. The Public Hearing is being held to review and accept public comments regarding proposed Local Law #2 of 2023, “Granting Exemption on Town taxes based on income for residents over the age of 65”.

PUBLIC COMMMENTS:
Supervisor Entwistle stated the county has raised the limit to $37,900.00. It was at $28,000.00. He went over the guidelines and stated if there are any questions, Tonya can help them. Art Gleasman from the Gallery asked if it was just for town taxes, not school taxes. Supervisor Entwistle stated that was correct. Deb Brayton from the Gallery asked if it was gross or not. Councilwoman Kardash thinks it is the bottom line because it was changed. Anne Pelno, from the Gallery asked if a widow is not filing because they are only getting Social Security, can they still be eligible? Supervisor Entwistle said even if they do not file, he believes they do a postcard filing. The income would be under the minimum and could still qualify for the exemption. This law is currently in the books, but the Town is repealing that one and raising the limit.

ADJOURNMENT:
A motion was made by Councilwoman Abrial and seconded by Councilman Scouten to adjourn the meeting.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 pm by Supervisor Entwistle.
